Day 2 - January 8, 2010

Today we got a tour of Dairy Farm, which is where our cousins live. We met a couple of ex-Pats who live in the same condo estate. There are a ton of trees and beautiful flowers here. The complex has its own little mini mall with a bar, hair salon, grocery store, etc. all within a two minute walk. We also learned that there are pythons and cobras that live in the bushes in their complex. Scary, one of them ate a dog a few weeks ago, scary!!

We also went on a hike to see some of the rain forests of Singapore. Our cousin Jeffrey lives near the highest peak in Singapore which is Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. Which is stands at an altitude of 164m. Bukit Timah is located near the centre of the Singapore main island. We didn't hike up it yet, but went on a nature walk at the base of the peak and then had to go to 7-Eleven to get Kiera, their 6 year old daughter a slurpee. The machine exploded on the poor girl and as we were paying for the Slurpees we noticed you can buy mashed potatoes and gravy out of a slurpee like machine. YUCK!!!

After our hike, we relaxed for a little while and then went down to Orchard Road which is a main street in Singapore which was where all of the prostitutes and transvestites used to hang out. Now this is limited to one building Orchard Towers which is known as the "Four Floors of Whores" on the street. We did however still see a bunch of transvestites walking around the street. We picked up some new Tivas to help our sore feet and then got stuck in a torrential downpour so got some coffee at Starbucks to wait out the storm.

When we got back to the Watkins, Nancy, their live in maid had deboned a chicken and stuffed it. It was delicious. We had some wine and talked with Jeffrey and Kristy for hours and broke their visitors record of staying up past 9:30pm on the first night of the trip. At 9:40pm we were exhausted and passed out!

Here are some pics from the day!
